About Us

Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream opened in June of 1982 in Portsmouth, NH. It was a simple formula. Produce ice cream using only the finest natural ingredients, no artificial colors, 16 ½ % butterfat, and very low air injection. A true super premium ice cream. Next come up with flavors that would entice any ice cream lover. Flavors such as Peanut Butter Fantasy, Cashew Caramel Cluster, Chocolate Chip with Kahlua, and New Hampshire Pure Maple Walnut to name just a few of the more than 40 flavors of ice creams, sorbets, and yogurts Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream offers. This was the start of one of the most successful and recognized ice creams in New England.

In 1993 Dr. Lewis Palosky and his wife Linda bought Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream. At the time Dr. Lew was an optometrist with successful practices in Massachusetts and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He had worked for both the N.H.L. Hartford Whalers hockey team and the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team in that capacity. Soon Dr. Lew discovered that the challenge, excitement, and fun of running a first class company such as Annabelle’s exceeded the fulfillment of his optometry practices. He retired from the world of eyes to the world of ice cream. Lew and Linda devoted their full time to Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream with the commitment to the quality of the product and the promise to retain the integrity in the ice cream business which Annabelle’s has now become famous for.

Annabelle’s Natural Ice Cream has won many awards throughout New England. New Hampshire Magazine’s "Best of New Hampshire", Yankee Magazine’s "Editor’s Pick", Northeast Foodservice and Lodging’s "Buyer’s choice Award for Best Dessert", just to name a few. Lew and Linda feel that more important than the awards is the feedback from customers at Annabelle’s main location in Portsmouth and its distributors around New England and the many wonderful e-mails and letters they receive from all parts of the country and sometimes the world. From “you have the best so and so flavor” to “where can I purchase your ice cream to sell?” Communications such as these reaffirms Lew and Linda’s commitment to making the best product possible.

Dear Mr. Palosky,
Now that the annual fireworks are over I can write to you the letter I have put off. A few weeks ago as we were returning from Down East we stopped for ice cream at a little spot on the rotary, the name of which I cannot recall. My wife had a large chocolate, can’t remember what my son had, but I’ll never forget the strawberry.

Your strawberry is the finest there is, bar none! And you know that New Englanders are experts in ice cream. This is absolutely the best strawberry there is. The consistency is perfect, not thin, and not gummy. Words fail me.

Please accept my personal thanks for the Best of the Best. Of course, we have access to a bunch of the big names in ice cream, and we have Charlie’s made here in the back of his stand in Woodbury. But there is nothing anywhere in our experience to match up to the taste and texture of Annabelle’s. It is certain that Annabelle’s Ice Cream is important to all those who have ready access to a source. And for those of us who don’t have that ready access, we’ll just have to make the trip.

Sincerely,

Thank You!

Peter Nelson
